Baked Brunching

There is nothing quite as fulfilling as a Sunday Brunch, add a spectacular view, the warm rays of the (almost) winter sun and a fellow foodie and the Sunday Brunch turns into something quite magical.

Ash (of Ashleigh's Kitchen) and myself took a drive to the shores of Camps Bay to have a Baked Bistro Brunch in Bakoven.

There was the issue of parking and having to stand in a queue to be seated, but the sun on your shoulders and the promise of a delicious meal made the wait seem like a mere formality to the old adage that 'good things come to those who wait'.

Once we were seated at our table in the sun, we made our order of two green juices (as suggested by our waitress Kim), the brioche and the benedict.

What arrived at our table was something more spectacular than we could have imagined!

At First Bite the Brioche melts in your mouth with an element of cheesy delight shortly followed by the sharp tang of berries and the salty crunch of bacon that has been grilled to perfection. This is quite simply the answer to Sunday brunch and there is definitely no stopping at the first bite!

To my delight Ash and I had the same difficulty in decision making and decided we would share our brunch's so my second First Bite came in the form of the Baked Benedict...

At First Bite this poached egg, basil hollandaise is a benedict lovers dream... the hollandaise is light and perfectly marries with the Parma ham that is perched on top of the perfectly poached egg!

Baked is a hidden gem, the gem you don't want to share with the hipsters of Cape Town but feel you are obliged to! A gem that is packed with cyclists, pug puppies and self-confessed foodies, you won't regret the drive and you won't want to leave!

My advice: go with someone who likes to share, don't be put off by the line and treat yourself to a Sunday brunch... go on 'get baked'.
